Whether you're picking up the flute for the very first time or preparing for a career in music, my goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized instruction that cultivates technical excellence, artistic expression, and a lifelong love of music. I strive to create an encouraging environment where students are challenged to grow with purpose, curiosity, and joy — developing not only as musicians but also in character, discipline, and confidence.
I currently teach through two primary settings:
Private Flute Studio
My private studio welcomes students of all ages and experience levels, from young beginners to advanced high school students and adult musicians. Lessons are tailored to each student's goals, whether they are learning for enjoyment, preparing for auditions, participating in honor bands, or pursuing collegiate music study.
A Suzuki-Inspired Approach
As a trained Suzuki teacher, my teaching is grounded in the philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, who believed that every child can learn and flourish in the right environment. Rather than simply following a method or curriculum, I seek to cultivate a rich musical environment where students develop through careful listening, imitation, consistent encouragement, thoughtful repetition, and the daily habit of making beautiful music.
While the Suzuki Method is often associated with beginning students, I have found its principles to be just as valuable for intermediate and advanced musicians. Throughout every stage of study, I emphasize beautiful tone, careful listening, patient refinement, review, and steady, incremental growth. These principles are paired with comprehensive instruction in music reading, technique, artistry, music theory, performance skills, and independent musicianship, drawing from both the Suzuki tradition and my doctoral training in flute performance and pedagogy.
"Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, and endurance."
Parents are an invaluable part of this process. Especially with younger students — but continuing, in age-appropriate ways, through the middle and high school years — I encourage parents to remain active partners by attending lessons when possible, supporting consistent practice, celebrating progress, and helping students develop habits of responsibility and perseverance. Music education is most successful when teacher, parent, and student work together toward shared goals.
As students grow, lessons may include:
- Tone development and artistry
- Healthy technique and body awareness
- Music reading and theory
- Rhythm and ear training
- Scales and technical studies
- Audition preparation
- Practice strategies and independent learning
- Performance confidence and musicianship
Above all, my desire is to help students become thoughtful, expressive musicians who pursue excellence with humility, curiosity, and joy — developing skills and habits that will serve them both in music and throughout life.

I highly encourage prospective families to observe a current student's lesson before enrolling. This helps you understand the teaching style and decide whether the studio is a good fit for your family.
Families should also plan for the financial investment: studio tuition, instrument rental or purchase, Suzuki materials, and performance opportunities.

Students receive individualized weekly instruction while participating in ensembles, studio classes, chamber music, and performance opportunities that encourage both artistic and personal growth. The studio welcomes students pursuing music degrees as well as students from other academic disciplines who desire to continue performing at a high level.
Areas of study include:
- Solo performance
- Orchestral and band repertoire
- Chamber music
- Flute pedagogy
- Audition preparation
- Performance psychology
- Career development
- Teaching and leadership
- Faith and vocation in the performing arts
Students are challenged to pursue the highest standards of artistry while considering how their musical gifts can serve the Church, their communities, and the broader world. Whether a student's future includes graduate study, teaching, professional performance, church music ministry, or another vocation, my desire is to equip them with the musical, professional, and personal tools needed to flourish.
